Trains to Woodsmoor - Station Details and further Information on Woodsmoor Train Services
Woodsmoor train station is on the Buxton Line, serving the Woodsmoor suburb of Stockport in Greater Manchester, England, opened by the British Railways Board in 1990. Trains run at a minimum of half hourly towards Manchester Piccadilly northbound and Hazel Grove southbound, with many trains continuing to Buxton (hourly on Sundays).
It has two platforms and a ticket office with limited opening times. The platform for trains to Manchester Piccadilly can be accessed via steep steps from the humpback bridge going over the line (on Moorland Road), through the kissing gate at the end of Ferndale Avenue, or via the passage which is accessed from Crossfield Grove.
The platform for trains to Buxton can be accessed via steps on the other side of the bridge. The station is 800 metres away from the Stepping Hill Hospital, the main hospital in the town of Stockport.
Despite being a very popular station during rush hour, saving many car journeys to Manchester, there are plans to close the station and move it further up the line so that it can better serve Stepping Hill hospital, though no final decision has yet been publicly made.
Stockport Grammar School, an academically renowned public school in the Manchester area, is situated 200 m from the station. |
