Strawberry Hill train station serves Strawberry Hill in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, in south west London, and is in Travelcard Zone 5. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by South West Trains.
The line through Strawberry Hill (the Kingston Loop) opened in 1863, but Strawberry Hill station did not open until 1 December 1873. The current booking office building on the up side and the platform canopies date from the 1935 modernisation. The lifting barriers replaced swing gates in 1973 and the signal box was demolished in 1975.
Strawberry Hill depot, built in 1897, is enclosed by the Strawberry Hill-Teddington line and the lines linking Fulwell with Strawberry Hill and Teddington.
The typical off-peak service from the station is two trains per hour to London Waterloo via Richmond, and two trains per hour to London Waterloo via Kingston. There is also a limited direct service, that operates to and from Shepperton. In order to reach Popes Avenue there is a path immediately right from the station exit, this alleyway has been known in local circles as butt alley. |
