South Merton train station is in the London Borough of Merton in South London. The station is served by First Capital Connect trains, and is on the Thameslink loop. It is in Travelcard Zone 4.

The typical off-peak service from the station is 2 trains per hour to Wimbledon (clockwise around the loop) and 2 trains per hour to Sutton (anticlockwise). However, due to unknown circumstances, problems often occur in the Sutton area causing severe delays and regular short notice cancellations of peak trains to Wimbledon. During one month of 2009 it was noted that 9% of all services were cancelled.

An alternative bus route (164 to Wimbledon) is available for customers to get to Wimbledon. The stop for this route can be found on the opposite side of the road to South Merton station. The 164 to Wimbledon is advertised as arriving around every 10 minutes. During peak morning times customers should be aware that it is more usual for two or three 164 buses to arrive in a 5 minute window of one another around every 30 to 40 minutes.
