Trains to Oakham - Station Details and further Information on Oakham Train Services
Oakham train station serves the town of Oakham in Rutland, England. The station is situated almost halfway between Leicester, 27 miles to the west and Peterborough, 25 miles eastward on the Syston and Peterborough Railway.
Oakham is Rutland's only surviving passenger railway station. The line from Oakham to Kettering via Corby normally carries freight traffic only, although it does see daily use from with trains London and occasional use as a diversionary route for passenger trains between Leicester and London. The daily service to/from London calls at Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton and St Pancras.
From Oakham there is a generally hourly service operated by CrossCountry, with some additional peak-hour trains, in both directions each day; westbound to Leicester and Birmingham New Street, and eastbound to Peterborough, then either Norwich or Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
Connections to London, with just one change of train, are good: journeys to both London Kings Cross, via Peterborough, and London St Pancras International, via Leicester, can be completed in around 1h 50.
Despite managing the station, East Midlands Trains only operates a limited number of daily services to the station, including two early morning services to Norwich and a late night service to Nottingham. From 27 April 2009 East Midlands Trains has commenced a sole return train to London St Pancras via the new station at Corby Monday-Friday. |
