Trains to Narborough - Station Details and further Information on Narborough Train Services
Narborough train station serves the village of Narborough in Leicestershire. It is located on the Birmingham to Peterborough Line 5 miles south west of Leicester.
When built it was one of many rural stations built adjacent to the road with a level crossing. At the time, this would have been adequate given the road traffic of the period, but nowadays Narborough is a busy suburban village close to the City of Leicester and a large traffic jam on the entrance to Narborough is common, due to waiting for approaching trains to clear the level crossing.
From Narborough there is generally an hourly service each day towards Birmingham New Street westbound and Leicester eastbound. In the peak hours there are occasional services on the Birmingham to Cambridge and Stansted Airport route although most pass through Narborough station at a fairly high speed (90mph).
Connections at Leicester onward to London are ideal at 10 minutes, providing easy interchange to International Eurostar services at London St Pancras International, journeys can be completed in around 1 hr 30 minutes. Although it is staffed by East Midlands Trains, none of their trains stop here. This station has a booking office which is open commuter hours 6 am to 1 pm, the waiting room is open the same hours.
Narborough train station has a level crossing which is in fact the closest one to Leicester station. The times that the level crossing is usually activated for passenger trains are about 20-25 minutes past the hour and 20-25 minutes to the hour; these trains do stop and arrive a little after the activation times (one or two minutes). The level crossing will most likely activate twice near enough on the hour for two trains, usually both these trains don't stop and pass through at about 80-90 mph. It is rare however, sometimes the level crossing doesn't open between them. The first comes on the westbound line 1 or 2 minutes to the hour and the other comes on the eastbound line at about 3 or 4 minutes past the hour. The level crossing usually activates 2 minutes before the train arrives (a little longer than the stopping trains because they are fast and a lot more dangerous). The level crossing may activate at other times for freight trains. |
