Trains to Mount Florida - Station Details and further Information on Mount Florida Train Services
Mount Florida is an area in the southeastern corner of the Scottish city of Glasgow. Mount Florida is served by the Mount Florida train station which lies upon the Cathcart Circle railway line. The area is home to Langside College and the newly developed NHS hospital on the fringe of Queen's Park, due to open in 2009. Primarily a residential area, Mount Florida's housing stock largely comprises traditional tenemental buildings with the addition of two of Glasgow's high rise structures which dominated much of the 1960's housing 'regeneration' in the city. The main road through 'the Mount' is Cathcart Road, a major route through Glasgow's south side.
Scotland's National Stadium Hampden Park is located off Cathcart Road in the heart of Mount Florida. The 52,103 seater stadium is home to the Scottish Football Association, and Scottish Football League Second Division club team Queen's Park Mount Florida train station is a staffed island platform station on the Cathcart Circle. It serves the Mount Florida and Battlefield areas of Glasgow. Services are provided by First ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
Due to its proximity to Hampden Park, the station can be very busy on days where there is a football match or any other event taking place at Hampden. A third platform had been provided on the Inner Circle to the south of the main station opposite the site of the extinct goods yard. This platform was only brought into use during major events.
In January 2008, the northern exit from the station was closed whilst disabled access, including a lift, was provided. The stairs reopened in September 2008, although the lift remains to be brought into service.
A typical weekday and Saturday service is five trains per hour to Glasgow Central (one train per hour in each direction on the Cathcart Circle, two from Neilston and one from Newton via Kirkhill), two trains per hour to Neilston and one train per hour to Newton (the one other hourly train to/from Newton runs via Langside). A Sunday service is almost the same except the Cathcart Circle trains do not operate. As a result, only three trains per hour operate to Glasgow Central. |
