Trains to Kew Bridge - Station Details and further Information on Kew Bridge Train Services
Kew Bridge train station is in the London Borough of Hounslow, in west London, and is in Travelcard Zone 3. The station and all trains serving it are operated by South West Trains. The typical off-peak service from the station is six trains per hour to London Waterloo — four direct via Putney and Clapham Junction, and two via Brentford and Richmond — and two trains per hour to Weybridge.
The station lies on the southern curve of Kew Bridge railway triangle, having been constructed by the London and South Western Railway. Additional platforms historically belonging to the North & South Western Junction Railway station of the same name were located on the eastern curve of the triangle and are now abandoned, along with the unused London and South Western Railway station building above the present station. Britain's largest cycle manufacturer, Brompton Bicycle are based behind the station, along the north edge of the railway triangle.
The Grade II listed main station building, originally designed by William Tite, is not used. Access is instead via a side walk-way. The rundown buildings can give the impression that the station is closed. There was a campaign in 2004 to have the station renovated, but it came to nothing. The redevelopment of the nearby Lionel Road site may lead to some kind of overhaul of the station.
Between 1862 and 1940 there were more platforms on the site, belonging to the North & South Western Junction Railway. The eastern curve now remains as a goods-only route connecting the North London Line with the Hounslow Loop Line. A few remnants of the old station extents still remain. |
