Trains to Cwmbran - Station Details and further Information on Cwmbran Train Services
Cwmbran train station is situated in the northeast of Cwmbran town centre within five minutes walking distance. It is part of the British railway system owned by Network Rail and is operated by Arriva Trains Wales. It lies on the Welsh Marches Line line from Newport to Hereford.
Services that stop at Cwmbran in both directions are all operated by Arriva Trains Wales and include the hourly service between Manchester Piccadilly and West Wales and the two hourly service between Holyhead and Cardiff Central.
The station was opened at this site in 1986 serving the commuter route to Newport and Cardiff, and shoppers to the town centre. Historically there were a number of other train stations in Cwmbran, though they were closed through the 1960s. The original Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company line to Blaenavon was closed to passengers in 1962 and finally to all traffic in 1980. The station at Lower Pontnewydd was located just 300 yards north of the present station on Station Road.
The station has recently undergone a refurbishment and now includes a larger car park, a new ticket hall, modern sheltered seating areas and new live departure boards like those seen at Newport. Previous to the refurbishment of the station, there used to be audio announcements, but these have since stopped. In addition to this, Torfaen County Borough Council have funded a limited Number 4 bus that serves the town centre and suburbs of Cwmbran, which is currently operated by Stagecoach in South Wales. It was officially opened by Rhodri Morgan AM on Friday 14 March 2008. |
