Trains to Chester-Le-Street - Station Details and further Information on Chester-Le-Street Train Services

Chester-le-Street train station serves the town of Chester-le-Street in County Durham, England. It lies on the East Coast Main Line 8 miles south of Newcastle. It is mentioned in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann. Chester-le-Track, an independent private limited company, operates the station as an agent for the local franchised train operating company, which, as of 2008, is Northern Rail. Chester-le-Track began operating the station in 1999, Chester-le-Street having lost its part-time staff some 10 years previously.

There is a regular First TransPennine Express service from Chester-le-Street northbound to Newcastle and southbound towards Durham and beyond (Manchester Airport). There are also a few limited Northern Rail services, even though the station is notionally managed by Northern Rail. CrossCountry run a frequent weekday service northbound to Newcastle and southbound to Reading via Birmingham. Mainline services operated by National Express East Coast pass through the station but do not stop.
