Cannock train station serves the town of Cannock in Staffordshire, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by London Midland.
Typically, Monday to Saturday daytimes, Cannock is served by two trains per hour in each direction between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley where connections to Stafford, Stoke on Trent and Crewe are available, although a small number of trains (4 per day on weekdays) terminate at Hednesford. Services are usually operated by Class 170 diesel trains. In the morning peak on weekdays, trains to Walsall and Birmingham run at an increased 20 minute frequency. Monday to Saturdays daytimes, one train per hour to Birmingham is a limited stop service that calls only at Walsall, Tame Bridge Parkway and Birmingham New Street. During the evenings and on Sundays, Cannock is served by one train per hour in each direction.
The station reopened in 1989, as part of the first stage of the reopening of the Chase Line from Walsall to Hednesford to passenger trains. It had previously closed to passengers on 18/01/1965 and to goods on 10/08/64, as part of the Beeching Axe. The remains of a small part of the original Up (southbound) platform can still be seen just to the north of the station. |
