Anytime Train Tickets

Anytime Tickets are fully flexible tickets that are perfect for any passenger who is unclear of their required travel times at time of booking their train ticket. Anytime Tickets offer no time restrictions on when you can travel.

Anytime tickets can be purchased at any time in advance or immediately prior to travel and can be used on any train. With an Anytime ticket you can also break your journey at as many stations as you like along the route for which your ticket was purchased.

Anytime Single and Anytime Day (Return) tickets must be used on the date shown on your ticket. For Anytime Return tickets, the outward journey must made on the date shown on your ticket and return journeys must be made within one calendar month.

Anytime tickets allow you to reserve seats and for busy services it is recommended you do so.

Anytime Tickets Discounts

As will all tickets Child discounts of 50% apply for all Anytime fares for children aged 5-15 years old. Up to two children aged under 5 can travel free with each full paying adult passenger.

Railcard holders get 1/3 off all Standard Class Anytime fares. Senior, HM Forces and Disabled Persons Railcard holders also get 1/3 off all First Class Anytime fares. Holders of Gold Cards in London and the South East also receive 1/3 off and holders of a New Deal Photocard in England and Wales receive a 50% discount.

 
 

National Rail Anytime Tickets Terms and Conditions

Anytime Singles and the outward part of Anytime Return tickets are valid for travel on any train on the date shown on your ticket. Break of journey for an overnight stay is allowed. Where a journey continues into the next day, travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains.

The return part of Anytime Return tickets can be used for travel on any train within one calendar month of the outward journey. Travel is allowed until 0230 on the day following the last day of validity. If you are still travelling at 0230 then you may stay on the train to complete that part of the journey, but no further break of journey is allowed and all travel must be completed by 1200.

If the route shown on the ticket has a †, the ticket includes the cost of travelling between certain London Stations (e.g. between Liverpool St and Paddington) by either London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) or First Capital Connect (Thameslink Route) services appropriate to the route of the journey being made.

Note: Tickets will only be accepted by London Underground and DLR on the date shown on the ticket (or last day of validity for return portions of Off-Peak Returns) and until 0429 the following day. - Other than to change trains, a break of journey at intermediate London Underground or DLR stations is NOT permitted.- Travel restrictions do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

You must travel in the class of accommodation shown on your ticket.

Railcard holders travelling on a discounted ticket must carry their Railcard when they travel. If a Railcard holder fails to produce their valid Railcard with their ticket, they will be required to pay a full priced ticket for their journey as if no Railcard and/or no ticket were held.

The outward part of an Anytime Return ticket is only valid for travel when accompanied by an unused return part of the same ticket.

Break of Journey

You may start, break and resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station along the route of travel.

Changing the Time or date of Travel

There are no restrictions on when you can travel, however if you wish to change your date of outward travel (for a return ticket), your journey or class of ticket, you will need to buy a new ticket and apply for a refund on your existing ticket (see below).

Refunds on Anytime Train Tickets

Your ticket is refundable. If you decide not to use your ticket to make all or part of your intended journey then you can get a refund by returning your unused ticket to a national rail ticket office within 28 days of the ticket expiry date. You may be required to pay an administration fee.

The refund amount will normally take into account any use you have made of the ticket and in some circumstances no refund will be paid.
