Southern Information
Southern is a train operating company in England. It operates to south London, Surrey, and Sussex from Victoria and London Bridge. On June 22 2008 Southern assumed responsibility for the non-stop Gatwick Express between Victoria and Gatwick Airport, which from December 2008 will be extended to Brighton during peak times.
Southern provides services in South London and between central London and the South Coast, through East and West Sussex and Surrey, and parts of Kent and Hampshire. Last year we carried 120 million passengers. Southern's 3,500 staff manage 160 stations and operate and maintain a fleet of 300 new and refurbished trains, seven days a week and up to 24 hours a day.
As part of the Government's new rolling stock plan, Southern will receive 12 new 4-car dual voltage Class 377 units which, on delivery, are planned to be transferred to First Capital Connect to operate the expanded services on the Thameslink route. To replace them, Southern initially was to take a number of Class 465 units from Southeastern.
