Grand Northern Information
Latest Service Update: The original Starting date of the Grand Northen Service has been delayed. The original start date of December 2009 has now been moved to May 2010.
Grand Northern Trains is the sister company of Grand Central Railway operating on the route between Bradford and London between the stations of Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross calling at Halifax, Brighouse, Wakefield Kirkgate, Pontefract Monkhill and Doncaster.
Grand Northern originally planned to run services from Bradford to London Euston via the West Coast Main Line. However, the moderation of competition clauses in Virgin Trains franchise agreement (which have also affected services run by Wrexham & Shropshire) led to a the route being changed to the current route using the East Coast Main Line.
When submitting plans for the route Grand Northern met opposition from First Harrogate Trains, sister company to First Hull Trains who submitted similar plans, however Harrogate Trains' proposal was not approved.
The service is operated by British Rail Class 180 stock that is capable of 125mph running and offers both first and standard class facilities along with a buffet service.
