Stranraer Port Ferry Overview

The Scottish Port of Stranraer is located in the South West on the southern edge of Loch Ryan at the mouth of the River Wyre. The Port and ferry terminal are operated by Stena Line who offer the only passenger service from the port, and offer excellent facilities & services. Ferries leave for Belfast from the East Pier of the Stena Line Ferry terminal.

The fast Stena HSS Catamaran Lynx III leave for Belfast from the West Pier. Five miles north of Stranraer is the port of Cairnryan where P&O Irish Sea Ferries operates its Cairnryan to Larne service. The port offers limited facilities although there is a Morrisons Supermarket and Petrol Station in London Road

Situated in the south west of Scotland, in the Dumfries and Galloway Region. Stranraer lies on the shores of Loch Ryan on the northern side of the isthmus joining the Rhins of Galloway to the mainland. Apart from the Stena Line ferry port linking the town to Belfast, the town's Stranraer railway station is also the Southern terminus for one of the branch lines of the Glasgow South Western Line. Trains are provided by First ScotRail daily to Ayr, Glasgow, and Newcastle.

Stranraer Port Directions

From the South follow the M6/A74 past Carlisle to Gretna, & then take the A75 west directly to Stranraer. Follow the signs for the Ferry Port which is located close to the Town Centre.
From the North Stranraer is reached by following the A77 Coast Road from Ayr.

All trains arrive and depart from Stranraer Station which is located beside the Stena Line foot passenger terminal.

Car Parking

There is a small short stay car park opposite the main terminal which is mainly used for drop off and pick up of passengers. There is also a larger short and long stay car park 200 yards from the main terminal opposite the Police Station.

Stranraer Ferry Port Services

The terminal building has a convenient reception hall, a 24-hour snack bar, a newsagent and vending machines. Toilets and washrooms, including Disabled facilities, can be found in the terminal building. Other disabled facilities include an elevator providing easy access to the departure concourse. There is wheelchair access throughout and assistance from trained staff is available upon request. Priority with boarding is given to disabled drivers and passengers.
