Speed Ferries is a ferry service between Dover in the UK and Boulogne-sur-Mer in France. The service commenced in May 2004 and is operated by a single ex-Australian navy catamaran. Their pricing structure is based around the concept of providing cheap travel for those travellers that book early with the price increasing the closer to the travel date.
When the company launched three years ago, they started a price war amongst English Channel operators and forced other companies such as Sea France, P&O Ferries and Eurotunnel to reduce their prices. Speed Ferries used the banner "fight the pirates" for this campaign.

Dover is a town and major ferry port in the county of Kent, England. France across the narrowest part of the English Channel. The town is the administrative centre of the Dover District.
Its strategic position has always been evident throughout its history: archaeological finds have revealed that the area has always been a focus for peoples entering and leaving Britain, and this continues to this day.
The port provides a great deal of the town’s employment, although many of the erstwhile ferry services have declined, so that unemployment tends to be higher than other parts of Kent. There was a military barracks in Dover, which was closed in 2007. Dover has a strong tourist base.
Boulogne-sur-Mer Bonen in Dutch) is a City in Northern France. It is located in the département of Pas-de-Calais (it has the status of subprefecture), near to the English Channel.
The population of the city (commune) was 44,859 in the 1999 census, whereas that of the whole metropolitan area (aire urbaine) was 135,116. The ferry service between Boulogne and Dover has been operated by SpeedFerries since the closure of Hoverspeed The major port of Calais is only 30 km away and provides major connections to Dover in England.
