Piombino Port Ferry Overview
Piombino is a town and commune in the province of Livorno (Tuscany), Italy, on the border between the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, in front of Elba Island and at the northern side of Maremma. It has an ancient historical center, derived from the time in which it was the Etruscans' port, in the surroundings of Populonia. In the Middle Ages, it was instead an important port of Pisa's Republic.
Its hinterland hosts a considerable industrial area. Its port is still heavily used, both for industry and for tourism, with ferry-boats to Portoferraio (Elba) and Olbia (Sardinia). The port of Piombino is located in a central position on the Tuscan coast and is situated at short distance from the infrastructure of the “Multimodal Tyrrenian Corridor”.
The total port throughput of embarked/disembarked cargoes find itself around nine millions tons a year, and passengers of almost four million. The port boasts quays for an extension of 2.300 metres, 15 berths with depths up to 13 metres, and port areas for about 123.000 sqm. |
