East Coast Train Services Information
East Coast is the brand name of the train operating company East Coast Main Line Company Limited. Unlike other train operating companies in the national rail network East Coast is a public company following the withdrawl of the National Express group who were the last operators of the route since privitisation. The Company traded under the name National Express East Coast.
East Coast is owned by Directly Operated Railways Ltd, a company set up by the Department for Transport. The initial purpose of setting up the company was so that the British Government, as the operator of last resort on the privatised British railway network, could assume control of the East Coast franchise from the private franchise holder National Express East Coast, who the government had deemed to be in default of the franchise conditions.
