Theatre Tickets - London's West End and the Theatre Scene Outside of London
 |
Watching a play unfold on stage is an exciting experience. The actors bring their story lines alive. They draw you into a world in which anything can and normally does happen. Even if you're familiar with a play, you've no guarantee that a few unexpected twists won't find their way into this retelling of the story. It's what makes stage plays so watchable.
The UK Theatre scene centres in London but that's not to say that London is the only place offering top quality shows, plays and musicals. Most successful West End plays end up touring the UK, and with pretty much every large town and city having at least 1 theatre it usually means there is no need to travel to London for a great night at the Theatre!

London's main theatre district is located in the heart of the West End of the city centre, and is traditionally defined by The Strand to the south, Oxford Street to the north, Regent Street to the west, and Kingsway to the east although The South Bank Complex is now considered by some to be part of it
Prominent theatre streets include Drury Lane, Shaftesbury Avenue, and The Strand. This area contains approximately forty large theatres and is often referred to as Theatreland. The works staged are predominantly musicals, classic or middle brow plays, and comedy performances.
Most of the theatres in "Theatreland" are of late Victorian or Edwardian construction, and they are privately owned. Most of them have great character, and the largest and best maintained are splendid, featuring grand neo-classical, romanesque, or Victorian facades and luxurious, detailed interior design and decoration.
The ideal way to travel to London theatres is by public transport. The London Underground or London buses will deliver you within a five-minute walk of most West End theatres. |
